History of the UGA CHEERS Booster Club
CHEERS, formed in 1998, was the first cheerleading booster club in the
Southeastern Conference and was organized to recognize, honor and support the University of Georgia
Cheerleaders, to play a leadership role in SEC cheerleading, and to foster fun and camaraderie among the membership and cheerleaders.
More than 100 families joined as charter members in the first two months of organization. Membership has since swelled to well over 200 families and cheerleading alumni who actively participate and
financially support the UGA cheerleading program.
As student-athletes and spirit ambassadors of the University, the UGA Athletic Association financially supports the cheerleading squads, mascots and
mic persons. CHEERS financial support enhances the program and covers those costs not already provided. Sponsored activities include pre-game tailgate parties for cheerleaders and members and production
of the annual cheerleader awards banquet. CHEERS provides home-game half-time meals for both our cheerleading squads and the opposing team squad, plus all the Powerade they can drink (and let me tell you,
it’s HOT out there!). In past years, CHEERS has also constructed men's and
women's locker and shower room facilities to permit before class practices.
